Exclusive: Star Wars Legion is bringing back Grand Army mode as Full Scale War, for massive 2,000 point games
1+ week, 1+ day ago (214+ words) Our newest full time staff writer, Tim Linward is a Warhammer 40k and'Horus Heresy fanatic who dabbles in TTRPGs, board games and MTG. You'll often find him delving through Games Workshop's financial reports for gaming news, combing the indie wargaming scene for cool new titles, or listening to yet more'Warhammer 40k books for deep 40k lore.'He's also written for PCGamesN, and 'Grimdark', his book of essays about Warhammer 40k and Games Workshop, will be published by Strange Attractor Press when it finally emerges from the warp. His controversial gaming opinion is that the Age of Sigmar double turn is objectively bad - it gives a single die roll too much'influence over the game state. (He/Him) Atomic Mass Games is developing new Full Scale War rules for Star Wars Legion, which will allow players to field colossal forces of at least 2,000 points. VP for…...

Save $80 on 14 classic Star Wars games that still hold up
2+ week, 5+ day ago (293+ words) This Star Wars bundle is packed with games made a long time ago, set in a galaxy far, far away, that have aged as well as the original trilogy. These are certainly not the most recent games, but fully half of them appear on our sister site PCGamesN's guide to the best Star Wars games ever, where they're up against modern AAA big hitters like Outlaws and Jedi Survivor. To slightly abuse a quote from Return of the Jedi: "It's older code, sir, but it checks out". The deal ends at 4pm PT / 7pm EST / midnight GMT on Friday November 14. And to avoid simply rehashing PCGN's "best of" list, I'll point out a few titles that you may have overlooked because of their age or obscurity. Republic Commando is an FPS that released at the very tail end of the original XBox's…...
Legends of Andor board game has nothing to do with Star Wars, but is less than $20 on Amazon
2+ week, 6+ day ago (317+ words) Legends of Andor is a 13 year old fantasy adventure board game, designed for families, that is currently on sale for under $20 on Amazon. There are plenty of fantasy board games out there, so what makes Legends of Andor unique? Well, for a start, Michael Menzel did the art, so the game looks great. Menzel provides the illustrations for Settlers of Catan, alongside a slew of other titles, and he brings his signature artistic style to bear here. The game takes place over a campaign of five scenarios, known as "legends", and has a problem solving focus. It's less about bashing orcs in intricate RPG battles, (although there are mechanics for combat) and more about time management. As the game progresses, event cards resolve that unleash all sorts of nastiness across the kingdom. Players need to spend their time navigating the…...
Get a Star Wars Unlimited Twilight of the Republic booster box for under $40 in this Black Friday sale
2+ day, 17+ hour ago (252+ words) Callum is the in-house ecommerce writer for Wargamer. After spending more than five years covering games and hardware on sites like IGN, Gfinity, Pocket Tactics, and Wargamer, he's covering the best deals on board games and the best trading card games like Pokemon - between collecting all of the different Pokemon TCG rare cards, of course. Star Wars Unlimited Twilight of the Republic is great for players and collectors alike, and you can get 384 cards for under $40 in this sale. Star Wars Unlimited is, in my opinion, a TCG that doesn't get the praise it deserves. I still love my Pok'mon, but I adore the sci-fi nature, the well-balanced gameplay (except for the fact that the Force Throw was recently banned for being overpowered), and the great chase cards of each set. That last part's my favorite bit of any good…...
This adorable, nostalgia-fueled Disney board game might actually be a wargame in disguise
4+ week, 1+ day ago (296+ words) I didn't have a Disney wargame on my 2025 bingo card, but The Disney Afternoon Rewind looks like it will deliver on that odd concept. You know wargames, right? Combat-focused tabletop games where you maneuver an army to try and outwit your opponent? It doesn't sound like a concept that would suit a Disney tabletop game, especially given how much licensed Disney games try to avoid Death with a capital D. Bambi's mom can die in the movies, sure, but she simply gets tired in games like Disney Lorcana. Strike two comes during setup. Each box includes a host of different characters from its selected show, and you can only have so many of them on your side. Teams are built on a Point Cost system, with more powerful allies being more expensive to recruit. That's a concept that's straight out of…...
Experience the best Star Wars inspired TTRPG for only $5 this Black Friday
5+ hour, 41+ min ago (216+ words) Ironsworn: Starforged is the best Star Wars roleplaying game that's not actually Star Wars, and for a price even Watto can't complain about Ironsworn: Starforged takes everything people loved about Ironsworn and improves upon it, from lore to mechanics. For those unfamiliar with the Ironsworn system, the original rulebook is totally free on the official website. Simply put, Ironsworn is a narrative-first game. Rules exist to guide the experience, but unlike something crunchier such as D&D 5e books, they never overpower the story. It's so story-focused, in fact, that there are even rules for co-op and solo play, so everyone can join in as players. A side benefit of this is that Starforged is fast to start up. While modular at its heart, Starforged does expand on its lore a bit more than its predecessor. Namely, the galaxy of Starforged…...
How Star Wars Legion's campaign mode was made with extra flair - "Tours of Duty is about telling your own story of an unknown hero's rise to greatness"
3+ week, 5+ day ago (467+ words) The Star Wars Legion designers battled scope creep and the game's existing upgrade system to make the Tours of Duty campaign system take off. "Campaign play with unit and character progression can be a very difficult thing to design and develop for any game", Pagani says, particularly "when that game already exists", since "there are many key elements that cannot be changed and hurdles you must overcome". Then there are the Supply Points, which are used to expand your army or acquire unique Strategic Assets. "I will never forget my opponent using the Combat Drop Strategic Asset to infiltrate a Persuader tank", Pagani says, "in our narrative it was buried under the sands and launched out into the open to ambush some poor Clone Troopers - hilarity ensued!" Though the team weren't so heartless as to exclude named characters altogether - "Sometimes…...
